Preface: Troop 2199 interviewed Tiffany Brar, a motivational speaker and social activist who believes that she is disabled for a purpose; she believes her disability is a way to bring opportunities and awareness for others like her. She was awarded the Daughter of India and is a community service worker. Additionally, she founded the Jyothirgamaya Foundation, a non-profit organization through which Ms. Brar is able to teach life skills to blind people of all ages. She studied her prime years in Great Britain, and later returned to India to pursue her education. From a young age, people treated her differently and she faced discrimination. But despite the difficulties she faced, she actively chose to reach her fullest potential and help others. As a troop, we interviewed Ms. Brar in hopes of spreading her story to others to inspire and motivate them.
What we learned: While interviewing Ms. Brar, we noticed her constant positive mindset and outlook on life even through the many hardships she has faced throughout her life. Our questions allowed us to get more insight into her life and struggles, along with ways that blind people, in general, need to be more included in society. Overall, our Troop is extremely moved and inspired by Ms. Brar’s kindness, bravery, and loveable personality, and want to help her make the world more inclusive.
Troop 2199s next steps: After getting the opportunity to interview Ms. Brar, our troop wants to support her organization, the Jyothirgamaya Foundation. We aim to fundraise for the foundation and teach English to those who are a part of her organization. We hope to continue learning about other inspirational figures' life stories to lead with compassion and spread positivity.
