2020 has been such a deranged year, one that nobody could foresee. Countless lives have been taken. Many have not gotten to hug their loved ones for the last time. Most of the world has been quarantined, while others are on the frontlines working, putting their lives in danger to save the lives of others. These courageous actions showed our troop that it was time to give back to our community. In March, we decided that, despite staying at home, we could make a difference by starting a mask donation drive. All 13 girl BSA Scouts started to tread their way on stitching masks. Without even knowing how to sew beforehand, our troop ended up making over 200 masks for hospitals and those in need. Venturing ahead to make the difference for the global community and to raise funds for our fairly new troop, we initiated the fundraiser with a suggested donation of $3 / mask. We ended up making over 400 masks and raised $1,383. We donated 20% of the profits to UNICEF, an organization that helps protect vulnerable children. Our troop plans to continue this mission to give back to the community by initiating a tutoring fundraiser that will allow kids to learn and grow despite being trapped in the four walls of their home.
